Significant implications of Bcl-2 in the formation of striatonigral projection neurons in the ischemic striatum

Abstract
In the ischemic brain, only a few newborn cells survive and differentiate into mature neurons. Guo et al. (2012) reveal that Bcl-2 overexpression enhances neurogenesis and promotes the formation of long projections from newborn striatal neurons to the substantia nigra in the adult brain.
